So Long Sugar!

There is nothing more refreshing than a new year. It's like taking a deep breath and welcoming in new possibilities and hope. I love a fresh start, a chance to evaluate the last years events, the highs and lows and commit to making positive changes. Each new day we've been given should propel us forward into better habits and constant growth, but nothing more so than the new year. I hope this year will be good to all who commit to reviewing the past year and making some positive changes.

Something that we are committing to in the Robinson household is saying so long to sugar. Since refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup is in nearly every product at the supermarket, we will not be able to be completely sugar free, but plan to do more label reading, and purchasing as many sugar free, reduced sugar, and no added sugar food products as we can. In the past, this has been a very successful way to drop pounds quickly, and we hope to be able to do that as we embark on this sugar-free lifestyle. In 2009 we were able to successfully stay on this path for 4 months before getting side tracked by a traumatic family event and in 2007 we were very committed to this lifestyle until times got hard and money got really tight, but we intend to stick to this and see it through. If you live nearby and want to show us love and concern please consider our sugar free lifestyle and don't send us baked goods or sweets. The best policy you can have when making this decision is out of sight, out of mind. So, fare the well baked goodies of the holidays, sticky syrupy sodas, candy, and empty calories. You only give us sugar highs and crash us down to the depths of depression, you are the one responsible for all of the cravings, and you are making the numbers bigger on our clothing tags and higher than we want them to be on the scale. The best way to end any unhealthy relationship is to end it. So, so long sugar! As in the words of Miss Dolly Levi from the musical Hello Dolly " So wave your little hand and whisper so long dearie. Dearie, should have said so long, so long ago."

  1. i was reading an article about foods that seem healthy, but aren't. one thing i remember was things with artificial sweetners, like diet sodas, can actually make us crave real sugar, thereby derailing your plans. this was bad news for me since i love crystal lite and diet rite. anyway, just something for you to remember.
