Utah State Fair / Weird Al Concert!!!

Monday evening ( last night), Kevin and I headed about an hour north to attend the Utah State Fair. We had gone one other time the first year we were married and had really enjoyed it, but this trip was extra exciting because we had tickets to go see one of my favorite performers, Weird Al Yankovic! I am a huge fan of his parodies and had never been able to see a live show, despite my best attempts. About 7 years ago, he was playing at the Utah State Fair and I was able to get a glimpse of the show and some very far away pictures from the fenceline, then in 2007 when we made the move from Utah to Idaho we learned he was performing in Idaho Falls, but the tickets were SO expensive and sold out so quickly that we never got the chance to see him then either. This time we decided we'd better take advantage of the opportunity and go see him. It was sort of a last big HURRAH as just the two of us before Elizabeth came. Kevin was even able to get off work a little early so we'd have time to make the drive and walk around the fair for awhile, not to mention dine on some fair food - yum! One of my favorite summer time guilty pleasures is fair food. We did do some walking around to see a few exhibits and the animals, but the weight of my growing belly proved to be pretty tiring and we didn't see everything as thoroughly as we would have otherwise. We did however, sample some tasty drinks called Utah Blasters ( a spin off of my favorite Texas Twister) and enjoyed a bite from Moochies, who were premeried by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives who boasted the authentic philly cheese steak in Utah. Mmmm - delicious! We also splurged on an elephant ear ( which I grew up with in Indiana and is a huge fried piece of dough sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar- tasty but oh, so messy!) just before the concert. The concert was so much fun though, and despite our seats on the side, which left the stage blocking the jumbo screen which showed clips and videos throughout the night, and being a little squished, we had a really great time! We were close enough to get some good pictures of Al. I felt like a teenager again, screaming and cheering as he sang songs from the past and even some I hadn't ever heard before. I sang along to what I knew, and so did a lot of people around us, and amazingly enough despite all the noise, little Elizabeth didn't kick or punch or even have the hiccups through the whole show. How she slept through it I don't know, but maybe she takes after her daddy who has to sleep when he is tired no matter the ruckus going on around him. What a great night filled with so many memories! I'm so glad we got to attend, who knows when we would have been able to go again, or if he'll even be touring for that much longer. What an experience! Sometimes you just have to splurge and have a little fun. Enjoy the photos below . . .

This was a 4-H Exhibit that someone made out of various motorcycle parts that Kevin and I thought was really cool, apparently named "Baby" What a lot of work!

The infamous butter sculpture for the year, the subject of course:

The Royal Wedding

A closer look at the Prince. . . Can you believe it's butter?

I have a similar pic. of this sign from back in 2004

Getting excited about the concert. . .

Me, indulging in the "elephant ear" and covered in powdered sugar

When we arrived home last night we discovered huge grease

I'm definitely NOT happy about that , hope I can get them out.
