Perspective

We made it through the holidays!  And soon I will post pictures from our Christmas, which didn't turn out at all as we had hoped, but there's always next year . . . Speaking of which, we made it past the end of the Mayan calendar and are moving forward into a new year.  I know I've said this before, but I love New Years, not because of the partying or TV ball drop, but because everyone gets a fresh start, and we all need that.  It's a like a major do-over, if you missed out on something or messed something up, you get a chance to change and do better.  It is a time to review, revise, and re-write a bit of your life.  I try not to sit down at the years end and make a list of 10 or more overwhelming goals and go so overboard that the changes are overwhelming, but I do like to take inventory and make improvements.

So, I'd like to share what our intentions are for this new year.   In short it comes down to this one simple thought "Each day is a gift".  There was so many unexpected senseless tragedies this year, and so many people were lost - just like that in a split second.  For some reason it really hit me how precious and fragile each moment we had to spend together was.  No one is guaranteed tomorrow and no one is immune from a sudden loss.  Why then don't we spend our lives being grateful for each second we spend with our loved ones?  Why don't we make time to get together and make memories?  Why don't we treat ourselves better, by fueling our bodies with healthier foods and exercise ?  Why don't we take every opportunity to increase our knowledge?  And build a relationship with our God?  Why can't we be a little kinder and gentler to those we meet in our day to day encounters?

We are all struggling, we are all hurting, we are all just trying to get by.  Let's love more, judge less, say I'm sorry more, turn off the TV, count our blessings, and enjoy each moment we get to spend with those we love, for in the blink of an eye it could all be taken from us.  This is our families hope and prayer for 2013.
