This year I decided to make Valentines Day an event! I decked the kitchen wall with a "Be My Valentine" Banner, set the table with matching valen-themed tablecloth and place mats and I even found a place for our Valentine bears as the center piece. I made plans for a fun filled evening with the hubby and made sure dinner was ready when he arrived home. It was so fun to surprise him with my all out approach.
First, we exchanged cards and gifts. Here is hubby with his haul, which included a t-shirt ( We love the muppets!), body spray ( I love a good smellin' fella), a small box of sugar free chocolate ( It isn't Valentines without some type of chocolate), and Strange Brew on DVD ( man movie ).

And here is me with my adorable toad balloon which read, "Toadally Kissable" and a brand new bottle of vanilla body spray ( hubby likes a sweet smellin' wifey too ).

Here's our valentines table complete with another look at my adorable balloon. Once the gifts had been given we sat down to a dinner of lasagna, salad, and strawberry crystal lite (I had to keep the red theme going ). After dinner we had a little contest. Whoever won could choose the next activity for the evening. Before hubby arrived home from work I printed out some fun Valentines word searches. And with our word searches in hand I set the timer for 5 minutes, and whoever found the most words in 5 minutes won. At the 5 minute mark, we were tied so we set the timer for another 3 minutes, and I had 1 more word than him ( 12 to 11 ), so I got to pick what we did next!

A few Christmases ago we received marshmallow guns from my mom complete with 2 different colors of mallows and had yet to try them out, so I figured why not run around the apartment Laser tag style with very few lights on trying to shoot marshmallows at each other. It was a blast! Every so often our dried out ammo would get stuck and we'd just laugh and laugh . Note to anyone trying this idea, old marshmallows hurt more than fresh ones, and having a pet around to take care of fired ammo is essential! I love the pic below of Kevin!

After our gunfight, Kevin wanted to watch his movie so we settled down to watch "Strange Brew". He made it through the entire movie, but I only made it through about half ( not my idea of a funny movie but as long as he enjoyed it). At the half way point I snuck off to the kitchen to whip up one more sweet treat for my sweetie. I had a picture of my happy hubby munching on his semi-homemade love donuts, but it didn't turn out. Just imagine the thrill of a man with a serious sweet tooth who's been denied actual sweet treats like donuts since January 1st feasting on cinnamony sweet donuts ( Don't worry I used Splenda, we are still sugar free ), complete with heart shaped cut out middles and lovely little donut holes. He loved them. I got the idea from a wonderful website for keeping love alive in the realm of coupledom called Love Actually. Here is the link to the recipe

What a wonderful evening making silly memories with my favorite fella. I love that boy and I am so lucky that we found each other. I seriously don't know what I would do without him in my life. He's my best friend and I loved planning a little evening for us together, it was worth the extra effort to turn back the clock to our dating days and go all out like I used to, he deserves it.
What a wonderful evening. A truly fantastic way to revel in your love, with a whole lot of playing!
ReplyDeletemarshmallow assassins. muppets. movies. what a perfect valentine's day. by the way, the only way i can make it through all of strange brew is by remembering that it's loosely based on hamlet and looking for all the similarities.
