Three Days of 30th Birthday Fun!!!

Kevin celebrated his 30th birthday on October 21st, and I decided since it was a BIG decade birthday to go all out for him! So, we spent 3 days celebrating just how great he is. The birthday weekend kicked off on Thursday( his actual birthday ) with a "Bayou Bash" complete with one of his favorite cajun dishes jambalaya! I even put authentic, or as authentic as I can get in Utah, andouille sausage in it, to really spice things up and added shrimp too. We guzzled swamp water swill ( really just green apple juice with 7Up ) and ended the meal with one of his favorite treats from Louisiana, beignets! For those of you who don't know what those are, they are a big treat in New Orleans, and are basically a type of French donut with loads of powdered sugar on top. It was my first taste of them, and they kind of reminded me of fried fench toast or even fried cream puffs, without the cream center of course. I got the recipe off the internet and I think they turned out just fine, at least that's what he thought anyway! I think my favorite part of the evening however was dancing around to some great Cajun and Creole music together. I put together a list of songs on playlist.com and we had fun dancing around to the popular song :Jambalaya and any other tunes I could find that were Jazz or Zydeco. It was a great way for him to remember the time he spent in Louisiana on his mission and for us to make new memories together!

Shortly after we started dinner, we were attacked by a fierce pair of alligators!
They stuck around for some Bayou fun with us and made the night extra silly!

Mmmmmmm . . . Beignet Heaven!

For day number two of birthday fun ( Friday ), Kevin and I ventured off to Lagoon ( a nearby amusement park ) to participate in the classic fall event: Frightmares! We splurged quite a bit, but were lucky enough to get a 2 for 1 coupon through a local TV station and save a little. We had never been to Lagoon during the off -season but were looking forward to treating our inner children to an evening of fun! We rode fast rides, bumped around on the bumper cars, got dizzy, got wet, got a little scared ( I didn't venture into too many spook alleys - only 1 ) and got really cold. But it was a blast! We even got to see a hypnotist show ( sorry I didn't get pictures - we weren't allowed to take any ). Who says you can't act like a kid in your 30's? Not me!

Howdy Partner!

A cool 50's car that was running with smoke pouring out and tunes blasting!

My favorite pic of Kevin from the night!
Day number 3 ( Saturday ) we invited family from both sides and we got together at our apartment for cake and ice cream, chatting, and karaoke, and Kevin even got a gift! My family bought him a brand new classical guitar that is better suited to the size of his hands so he can become my guitar hero! We had a wonderful night and were so glad that everyone joined us for some birthday fun!

We couldn't have had a better 3 day block of birthday fun this year! Three cheers for celebrating 3 decades in the life of my sweet hubby. Man, to top this year I'm going to have to get really creative. I guess that means I had better start planning now!
