Clever Comparisons

I was inspired to write this entry thanks to a friend who made a very clever observation about Kevin and I and our pets. Which I must admit I hadn't noticed until she brought it up, but I definitely see now that she is onto something with her theory. . .

First of all let's look at my sweet hubby. Kevin is very easy going and laid back it takes a lot to ruffle his feathers in most cases. Unless there happens to be a sports event occurring in the field nearby and someone parks in his spot in front of the house. He loves kids and is so sweet with them. Being outdoors is also a favorite thing of his, especially in the mountains. He is a simple kind of guy. He doesn't need anything fancy to wear or eat, and likes the comfort of a routine. He is a sucker for a good back rub, especially after a long day of lifting, twisting, and bending at work. He is also a big fan of getting rest, and when he is tired he sleeps, despite my best efforts at times to keep him awake.

Now let's take a look at Gus. He is a sweet pooch, he loves to relax, and is very attached to his routine, when he flaps those ears around every morning you know he is awake and hungry. He loves to be outside, sometimes when we let him out for a potty break, he wanders around the yard and then settles down in the yard until we let him in. Just this morning, he was lounging under the tree enjoying the autumn day instead of begging to be let back in. He is so good with children, and although he is excited to be around them, he doesn't jump and scare them he is very slow and gentle. He is very simple and easy to get along with, unless of course there is someone walking by his yard. He is very protective of his turf, especially if some unknown male comes by wearing a hoodie. He isn't a dog that needs accessories. Make sure he has a bed, a bowl of water and a bone and he's happy. He's a no worries, happy tail waggin', all he needs is a good ear scratch kinda dog.

So, is it just my imagination or does Kevin sound like Gus and vice versa ? I wouldn't say they look alike, but they do happen to be cut from the same cloth, and that works for them. I guess that's why they say that dog is man's best friend, and that fact is very apparent. Every time Kevin has some work to do around the house or in the yard Gus is trotting along beside him, just like a little boy would. It's really quite adorable. So those are my easy going, hard working, big relaxin' boys and I love them both, even though one of them does have a drooling habit. LOL

Okay, so I guess it's my turn to compare Boomer and I. But first, let me make a confession. He is a very cute little purrball, but he is driving me up the wall lately! I suppose this is the motherhood pre-test , so I am trying to be patient, but a little 3 month old kitten can sure drive a human nutsy. Despite it all, I do love the little guy and there is nothing like the sound of his motor when he's content and happy!

Anyway, me now huh? I am kind of ADD when it comes to getting things done, and am easily distracted from the task at hand. I also am very curious always asking questions and wanting to know how things work and why this is so, or how that came to be. I am a self professed "Google Queen". In fact, when I was younger I would always ask my mom what a word meant and she told me to look it up in the dictionary. Now, I do look things up when I want to know. I spend a lot of time during the day on the computer, randomly looking things up - usually health related issues and such but sometimes recipes, or anything really. I love to write and am most focused when my thoughts transfer from my head down through my fingertips as I type. I like people but there are many a day when I'd rather just do my own thing. There is nothing like a mid day nap, especially when the sun is shining on me and warming me up. And I must admit I love to watch the squirrels playing in the yard and the birds too. I also absolutely love to play, and am very playful, in my writing and my childlike ways. I am kind of transparent when it comes to how I am feeling. I am not so good at hiding things, when something is bothering me it is very clear through my body language. I like the outdoors and going places, but there is nothing like being in my house on a quiet afternoon, or staying up late when everyone's asleep. So that's me!

Now, Boomer. . . Boomer is impulsive and adventurous with a curious mind. He cannot hide the way he is feeling either. He is either getting into trouble by picking fights, or perched on my shoulder staring at the computer screen, well mostly the cursor as it swirls around. If the keyboard has been left in a slid out position, I've also caught him typing on occasion. When he finds something new, he wants to learn all about it ( see the picture below of him in the bowl ). He has to experience things for himself with as many senses as possible. He is also a big fan of naps in the sunshine, and just napping in general. He doesn't believe in boundaries, or being told no - in fact he'll probably go and do just what he wants to do anyway. A time out is a helpful tool in learning, or as I lovingly call it "kitty jail". It's amazing how similar we are, which is probably why he drives me so crazy sometimes. You know that curse that your parents give you when you are young? Well, mine has come to pass, only in the form of a pet instead of a baby. Hopefully that makes me exempt from having children like me * crossing fingers* - LOL

We are a family! Yes, two of us are furry with a tail and four legs, but we make sense somehow. Kevin is able to mellow Boomer and I, and Gus and Boomer have that same effect on each other. Boomer and I keep things shaken up on occasion, and make sure things don't get too stale around here. We all have our parts, there is purring and barking and lots of laughing. Who could ask for anything more?
